It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Maeve Kelly, novelist, short fiction writer, poet, activist. She was a writer of profound empathy and fierce insight, and the author of Orange Horses, which we had the immense honour of republishing in 2016.
Maeve Kelly was a fearless feminist and one of the founding figures behind ADAPT House, a refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence. It was the first of its kind in Limerick, and one of the earliest in Ireland. Her work there changed countless lives.
Her fiction carries that same clarity and compassion introducing us to her vibrant, courageous, complex characters: women who live on the margins of society, but are rendered unforgettable in Maeve Kelly’s prose. She continued to write and publish new poetry with the wonderful Arlen House.
Our deepest sympathies to Maeve’s family, friends, and to all who loved her.
We are honoured to have known her, and so proud to have Orange Horses among our publications.
